Regeneracíon was written and published by Francisca Flores from 1970 to 1975.
She was inspired by the brothers Jesús, Enrique, and Ricardo Flores Magón, prominent figures in the Mexican Revolution who had published an earlier newspaper also called El Regeneracíon. (The anarchist and anti-war paper was banned by the Mexican government, and the U.S. jailed Ricardo for sedition under the Espionage Act of 1917.) Previously a newsletter called Carta, Flores used the magazine to report on news and political actions of interest to the Chicano community; to encourage self-expression through opinion pieces, poetry, and art; and to convey her own feminist ideals. For this work, the FBI put Flores under surveillance and designated her a dangerous individual, "who in all probability should be interned in the event of war.”
